An Enrolled Agent, EA, is a federally authorized tax professional who may represent taxpayers before the IRS. EA representation may assist with IRS notices, correspondence, payment issues, and tax matters.

What is a POA?

Power of Attorney for tax matters is specific and limited

POA stands for Power of Attorney. IRS Form 2848 allows an authorized representative to communicate with tax authorities on behalf of the taxpayer for the specific tax matters, forms, and years listed on the authorization.

It does not mean giving control over personal finances generally.
